Seibu Signs Alex Graman

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Seibu Signs Alex Graman
The Seibu Lions have signed 28 year old left handed pitcher Alex Graman to a one year contract worth 50 million (5,000-man) yen.

Before being called up by the New York Yankees this past season, Graman posted a 7-7 mark with a 3.16 ERA in 28 games with the Triple-A Louisville Bats of the International League.

Graman has a 90-plus fastball but scouts say he relies too much on velocity. In the minors you can get away with it but not in the Majors.

Just a small correction to the above statement: Graman went 5-6 with a 3.18 ERA in 23 games with the AAA Columbus Clippers (the New York Yankees' farm team), and went 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 5 games with AAA Louisville (the Cincinnati Reds' farm team). [Minor League Stats]

The New York Yankees designated Graman for assignment on July 29th. Which meant the Yankees had 10 days to either release, trade, or directly outright Graman to the minors. Graman became a free agent, and signed with the Reds in August. [MLB Transactions]
