Rhodes Signs with the Reds

Rhodes Signs with the Reds
Tuffy Rhodes signed today with the Cincinati Reds, signalling the end of his career in Japan. [Full Cincinati Post Article]

I was hoping to see him finish his career in Japan, but hopefully he makes his home town team.

It says he played for three teams in Japan - Kintetsu, Yomiuri - AND?!

Oh, and the article said Rhodes "never playing more than 140 games" - uh, that's because there AREN'T MORE THAN 140 GAMES in the season in Japan! :P

I thought of a few reasons why he might have "played" for three teams - as his stats probably might say this:

Kintetsu
Kintetsu
Osaka (when they changed their name)
Osaka
Osaka
Osaka
Yomiuri etc.

Or - they saw Bobby Rose (whose name in katakana is the same) for the BayStars and thought it was the same person? But I suppose he played for both Yokohama AND Hanshin.

Oh well - I suppose intricate details aren't that important to the person reporting the story.

Huh? Hanshin?

I stand corrected - I looked up his statistics page. I thought Bobby Rose played a year for for Hanshin - perhaps it was just the rumours that he was going to that stuck in my mind. So in terms of blunders: Cincinnati reporter 2, Me 1 .

It was Bobby Rose that came to camp with the Marines for his two week comeback, but decided that he had enough of Japanese baseball. He was rumored to go to the Hanshin Tigers, but that was because the Tigers wanted him on their side since he hit a career .500 off of Hanshin pitchers.

Too bad no team let Tuffy finish his career in Japan. Maybe there still is an outside chance. Taking a chance on Rhodes would be great for one of the lower ranking teams, just as long as the price is right.
