Watanabe: Virtual Perfect Ejection

Watanabe: Virtual Perfect Ejection
With a virual perfect game going at Chiba Marine Stadium, Lotte's Watanabe Shunsuke hit the lead-off batter, Teppei, in the back of the head in the top of the 7th inning. It was ruled a dangerous pitch (even with the rain coming down), and Watanabe was ejected.

The Rakuten Golden Eagles had only one other base runner in the game, also a hit batsman, but he was erased on a double play.

Uchi came in to pitch for the ejected Watanabe, got a double play, and the third out of the inning. So there's still a no-hitter going at Chiba Marine Stadium in the 7th inning, with the combined pitchers throwing to the minimum number of batters. Marines are leading 6-0.

That was a poor decision to eject Watanabe.
  1. It wasn't intentional.
  2. Teppei stepped into homeplate with his bunt and absolutely froze up, the pitch wouldn't have come close to a normal batter's head.
Let alone the rain.

I believe it might be an automatic ejection if you hit someone in the head with a pitch in Japan, whether intentional or not. That's why Watanabe had no argument, even considering the rain and the batter's freezing up at the plate. Can someone confirm this?

Yeah I agree. It's unfortunate though. Usually Japanese play by the book, and the book only.
