August 2006 Monthly MVPs

August 2006 Monthly MVPs
The August 2006 monthly MVPs were announced yesterday (September 6).

In the Central League, it was Hiroshima's Kuroda who took the pitching MVP award with a 4 and 0 record and a 1.11 ERA. Having taken the July MVP as well, Kuroda becomes the first Carp to win the award two months in a row.

The batting/fielding MVP goes to Yakult's Riggs. Riggs batted .384 in the month with 12 home runs and 25 RBIs. He even stole a base in there. These are anything but typical #2 batter numbers.

Over in the Pacific League, Softbank's Saitoh took the pitching award. Saitoh was 4 and 0 with a 1.64 ERA in the month of August. He's right there in the battle for first place, keeping the Hawks close.

Finally, the batting/fielding MVP goes to Seibu's veteran Wada who batted .347 with 7 home runs and 29 RBIs for the month. At 34 years of age, he even stole a pair of bases on the month. After a poor performance into July, Wada has helped to keep the Lions on top through August and into September while raising his average to .292 and sitting on top of the PL RBI leaders with 89.

Congratulations to Adam! I believe this is the second monthly MVP award he's received this season.

And to think that rumor has it that Yakult are thinking of not getting him back next year. That would be idiotic given that it looks like Iwamura will be posted at the end of this season. Hopefully the powers that be at the Swallows will come to their senses.
