Lance Carter to Orix

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Lance Carter to Orix
I've heard that Orix is about to sign Lance Carter, a right handed pitcher previously from the Dodgers and D-Rays. Is this a good pickup for the Buffs? How will this effect the team? Will Serafini and Davey be back? Have they signed any bats? I heard something of Chad Allen, but did he sign? I'm interested to see if Terry Collins can turn this around.

He would be a good pick up. Where did you hear this rumor? If it's true, who would Orix release? Probably Obermueller. That is if Serafini is healthy. Davey was too good last year to even think of releasing.

So far I haven't heard any news that Orix is even looking at Carter.

As for Allen, they brought him to their fall camp a while back, but so far nothing has came of it. It is possible that they decided against signing him.

Third, Davey will be back for sure, after his excellent year once again, and Orix would be crazy to get rid of him. Serafini was signed to a one year contract and is unlikely to be brought back, as neither is Obermuller who was a disappointment.

Collins will have his work cut out for him to turn around Orix. It is very unlikely it will happen in 2007. There are way too many questions surrounding Orix for them to compete.

Serafini is the only Buffalo gaijin who is under contract. He is entering the second year of his contract. Orix hopes he can regain some of the magic he had with the Marines. Makes you wonder why they spent so much money on a guy that had one good year. We will see this year.

There are no other players currently under contract. Carter and Allen are rumored to be. Davey, Obermueller, Garcia, Brumbaugh, and Grabowski all appear to be heading elsewhere. Any chances of these guys landing in Japan somewhere? I would guess by the stats the chances are slim on most of these guys. Orix needs a lot of help.

Good luck Terry!

Davey will most likely get signed by an NPB team or be retained by Orix. He went 10-8 with a 2.62 ERA, so there are plenty of teams that should be interested in him. Davey has proven to be a success.

As for the rest, none of them played all that well and don't appear likely to play for any NPB team in 2007.

Serafini signed a two year contract that Lotte wouldn't give him.

Looks like Lotte was the smarter team here. Orix has a big contract to eat.

This would be a great pickup. Lance is a former MLB All-Star closer and a great person.
