Zuleta Is Now a Marine

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Zuleta Is Now a Marine
- The Lotte Marines said Friday they have signed a two-year contract worth an estimated $5.2 million with Panamanian slugger Julio Zuleta, whose contract talks with the Softbank Hawks broke down recently.

This is great news for the Marines and for all the loyal fans. If Zuleta can hit at least 30 homers, this team has a chance to win it all again. They should be right there with Softbank at the end of the season. His presence will also probably push guys like Benny, Imae, Saburo, Ohmatsu, and Takehara to step it up. I'm guessing he'll be a DH 95% of the time, and fill in at first if Fukuura gets injured or tired.

If this guy can keep from getting suspended for punching pitchers, his bat will be a huge blessing to all the Marines fans.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to agree that he'll be DHing most of the time, and Benny (who DH'ed most of Lotte's games this year) will go back to the outfield. It's a nice move for Lotte, and maybe Bobby Valentine will have some good influence on him as a manager.

In related news, Fighters' pitcher Satoru Kanemura is studying aikido, and designing a protective pitching helmet for days when he'll be facing Lotte.

<I'm just kidding about that last part.>

That last part about the helmet made me laugh out loud! Just wanted to say, nice visual. Ha ha ha ha!
