Oh-kantoku to Lead in 2007
The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks' manager, Sadaharu Oh, has pledged to be in uniform at the head of the team from the start of February to the end of the Nippon Series. This comes after Oh-kantoku missed half of the 2006 season recovering from having his stomach removed due to stomach cancer. Pull quote from Mainichi Daily News:
"I don't think his physical condition is perfect. But I believe he has decided to come back after apparently regretting taking leave mid season last year," [Hawks executive Takanori] Takeuchi said.

It was obvious last season that Oh-kantoku was more concerned with his team than with recuperating. He was constantly in contact with his players and coaches from the hospital and from home. It's almost as though being away from his team caused him more stress than being in the dugout.

Nonetheless, Sports Hochi reports that Softbank is seeing to it that a medical network throughout the country is ready to receive Oh-kantoku should the need arise [in Japanese].

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
