China Condemns Japan's Promotion of Baseball in Mongolia

Discussion in the NPB News forum
China Condemns Japan's Promotion of Baseball in Mongolia
Official Mainland Chinese media has condemned the Japan Baseball Federation's efforts to promote amateur and professional baseball in Mongolia.

The JBF recently donated baseball uniforms and equipment to Mongolia. Japanese baseball has been involved in Mongolia since 1992.

The Angry Chinese Blogger states that Japan and Mongolia have extensive sports ties including Mongolian and Sumo wrestling.

I wouldn't look too much into the Chinese government's response (as the Chinese media is basically an entity of the People's Republic of China). Also Chinese-Japanese relations have always been very stormy. Many things have complicated Chinese-Mongolian relations. This is no different from the recent attitude towards Japan in China.

Though, I'd prefer to refrain from this as it's becoming way too political instead of dealing with the actual baseball aspect.

I fail to see this as a problem except from a Chinese style Monroe doctrine angle. The Chinese need to consider that if they want to make any progress in baseball then NPB are one of the bodies they need to talk to and work with. Criticizing NPB will not help the development of the game in China.

Bah, it's China.

What the heck is the blogger going on about here?

- Mongolia and Japan have enjoyed baseball ties since 1992 and have a long relationship in the fields of traditional Mongolian and Sumo wrestling, neither of which China actively participates in but remain popular in Japan despite recent encroachments from basketball and American rules football.

Sumo is one of Japan's major professional sports while basketball and American football are clearly minor sports (fledgling pro or semi-pro).
