Clete Boyer Dead at 70
Former Taiyo Whale Cletis "Clete" Boyer passed away on Monday at the age of 70. After a solid MLB career with 3 teams (most notably the New York Yankees) he moved to the Central League in 1972. Playing third base for the Whales, he hit .285 with 18 HRs that year in his first NPB campaign. He followed up with 3 more seasons with the Whales and finished his playing career with a .257 overall average. Upon his retirement as a player, he became a defensive coach for Taiyo in 1976 before returning to MLB as a coach.

The Missouri native is survived by a large family, including brother and former major leaguer Cloyd Boyer.

Thanks for sharing that with all of us here. Boyer was a great player and, as was the case with his brother Ken, he was also a great fielding third baseman.
