I'm surprised he didn't just announce his retirement. Is he still planning to play next year? And will he still be under contract with Orix? Despite their poor record this year, they have had some hot streaks. The last thing they need is making room for Kiyohara in the line-up next year.

Kiyohara says he wants to come back to play with Orix next year and doesn't care what his salary is. Though, staying healthy is another question.

Yes, Kiyohara is planning to return, though I would imagine at a much reduced salary. Terry Collins is also on record as saying he would welcome Kiyohara back (Japan Times 7th July).
