Darvish Throws One Hitter

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Darvish Throws One Hitter
Darvish throws 109 pitches over 2 hours and 15 minutes to one hit the Chiba Lotte Marines, going just 1 batter over the limit.

For Lotte, Saburo led off the second with a base hit, then Benny was hit by a pitch. Benny was erased on a double play, and Saburo went on to be the only Marine left on base the entire game. Darvish struck out 10 Marines in the process.

In his hero interview regarding the fast pace of the game, Darvish commented that with a day game tomorrow he wanted to finish early.

Of course, that quick pace was helped a great deal by excellent pitching by Watanabe Shunsuke. The submariner allowed just 4 hits through 8 innings, striking out 4 and walking 1. To his detriment, with two down in the 6th inning, Tanaka singled to center and Inaba homered to right. The Fighters won 2-0.

Poor Shunsuke.

In his last start, he gave up like 5 hits, with only a sayonara solo shot to Shibahara in a 1-0 loss to Softbank. That time it was Sugiuchi, this time it was Darvish. The poor fellow just has some bad luck in these great pitching duels.
