Kroon To Leave BayStars

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Kroon To Leave BayStars
Closer Marc Kroon will leave the BayStars after the team would not budge from its one year offer or two years with the second year being the team's option. Kroon was seeking a guaranteed multi-year offer.

Yokohama said they will look to fill the closer gap soon. The Yomiuri Giants have been mentioned as a possible destination for Kroon.

Kroon went 3-1 with 31 saves and a 2.76 ERA in 43 games.

Who is Yokohama going to use as closer? Kizuka is good, but that'd leave a huge hole in middle relief. Katoh has the velocity and relief experience to make a decent closer. My bet is on Kawamura being given the role, though.

The bullpen could be very ugly for them in 2008. A lot of teams have young pitchers ready to step up when veterans leave, like Chiba Lotte and Nippon Ham. I just don't see any young pitchers with dynamic stuff on the BayStars. Seems like they all throw slower stuff and were drafted to become starters in the future.

Yeah, Kizuka was who came to mind for me, too.

I'd much rather see Kizuka as the closer than Kizuka as this guy who comes out, kicks a hole in the pitching mound, jumps around, stretches, makes me laugh, and then throws like three of his crazy side-something-arm pitches and leaves the game.

Maybe they can, uh, teach Nasuno to be a good pitcher, and pick up some foreign help for the bullpen? I dunno.
