D. Williams Heading to Yokohama
Pitcher Dave Williams [Baseball-Reference] will play with the Yokohama BayStars in 2008.

Williams went 0-1 with a 22.85 ERA in 2 games with the Mets this year. He has a career 22-31 record with a 4.83 ERA in 82 games/72 starts.

In addition to Williams, it would appear, according to Japan Ball, that the BayStars have also added Larry Bigbie and Travis Hughes. Posting 24 saves and an ERA of 1.91 coming out of Pawtucket, and followed up by a stint in the VWL where he only allowed 2 earned runs in 22.1 IP, Hughes should be a solid addition to the Stars' bullpen in '08.

The Larry Bigbie signing could be a good one, in my opinion, but I'm not too keen on Dave Williams. Williams has been regressing as a pitcher for quite some time now. I never liked his stuff when he was with the Pirates, and he most certainly did close to nothing with the Reds and the Mets.

Yokohama has had too many soft tossing lefties in recent years.

Hughes could be a very good closer for Yokohama. Practically the only reason why Hughes was stonewalled at Pawtucket was because of the presence of Jonathan Papelbon at the Major League level.

Bigbie has some Major League experience, I think most recently with the Rockies and the Orioles. I forget where he played - was it third base?

He was primarily an outfielder.

As for Bigbie, I think he's a great signing by the BayStars. He's shown decent power and has a good on-base percentage. Like you mentioned, Hughes will replace Marc Kroon as the closer and has the potential to do fairly well there. As for Williams, I agree with what was said above, he has been regressing as a pitcher.
