Hanshin Throwing Out the Bathwater - Again

Discussion in the NPB News forum
Hanshin Throwing Out the Bathwater - Again
SanSpo reports today that the Hanshin Tigers are set to fire a large number of under-performing players again this year. There was a similar move a couple of seasons ago as Hoshino-kantoku finally convinced the club to let him construct his own team.

The players said by SanSpo to be in the firing line are: Hiroshi Ishige, Trey Hodges, Atsushi Yoshida, Ramon Morel, Kenichiro Hayakawa, Kazushi Hosomi, Hideki Irabu, Rodney Myers, Satoshi Arai, and Mike Kinkade.

Hiroshi Yagi is retiring this season, and while Teruyoshi Kuji was going to retire and become a coach, he's now decided to stay on. Katsuhiko Maekawa, one of this season's big disappointments (but still with potential) is being kept on.

Kinkade, Irabu, Hodges, Myers, and Morel don't come as suprises to be let go, as Hanshin already has said they were going to release them.

Is there any talk of Okada going? Or is it most likely he will stay to manage Hanshin in 2005?

Of course he'll stay. There's no way they'll get rid of a proven kantoku (ni-gun, at least) just because of a bad year. Isn't that the same mistake the Giants made last year?

But doesn't Hanshin always follow the Giants and make the same mistakes?

"Proven"? Is this a new use of the word I'm unfamiliar with?

Well he was manager of the farm team for a couple of years. Won several pennants and two championships down there (most of them when the top team was struggling). I believe that's what torakichi was referring to.
