Darvish Ks 14 for First Climax Series Win
The first game of Stage One of the 2008 Pacific League Climax Series is now in the books. Darvish and the Fighters down the Orix Buffaloes at Kyocera Dome 4-1. Darvish threw the entire game for the Fighters, striking out 14.

Cabrera went 2 for 3 with a sacrifice fly in the 8th for the Buffaloes' only run.

Pitchers for tomorrow have been annouced. Komatsu for the Buffaloes vs. Fujii for the Fighters.

Please feel free to join in on the live chat during the games. I don't think that I'll be here (family duties), but will try to join in as much as I can.

The Dominating Darvish that we all know came through for game 1. Of the 9 hits, 5 were infield hits of various kinds and the run was scored after an error (and pitch). It's really a mystery what happened to him in Beijing, but maybe the talk about him being a dome pitcher has some truth to it.

The second game of Stage I starts at 2:30 pm this afternoon, JST [World Clock for time in your area].

The question now is, can the Fighters win one of the two non-Darvish games?

Just got back from the game. The Buffaloes actually got 9 hits off Darvish, but just couldn't get the big hit. We met his father on the way into the dome, which was nice.

Darvish made this look like child's play. I hate to think about what he will do to the Lions. But then again, he'll probably be pitching at Omiya and not at the Seibu Dome, so we'll see what effect that will have.

There's talk of using Darvish in game 2 instead of game 1 outdoors, if that happens he'll only get 4 days rest until game 6 if the series goes the distance.

I also thought of that, too, letting Darvish pitch on full rest and starting game 2. Regardless, this is going to be one great series and I'm glad I'll be going to most of the games.

Simon, which days are you going to the Dome again? I'm thinking of getting a ticket for Tuesday's game in addition to the first 3 as well, and I think you said you were going on Sunday and Tuesday?

Interesting question, outdoor vs. domed. Here are some numbers on the season to think about:
                      G W L IP H BB HR K ER ERA
Away 9 7 1 62.2 51 15 8 71 17 2.44
vs Seibu 8 4 2 67.1 42 10 6 70 16 2.14

at K-Stadium Miyagi 1 0 0 2.0 3 0 0 3 0 0.00
at Hiroshima 1 1 0 7.0 8 4 1 9 2 2.57
at Jingu 1 1 0 8.0 7 1 1 9 3 3.38
at Chiba Marine 1 1 0 7.0 10 1 2 3 3 3.86
Total Outdoor: 4 3 0 24.0 28 6 4 24 8 3.00

at Tokyo Dome 2 1 0 17.0 9 4 0 18 2 1.06
at Yahoo! Dome 2 2 0 15.0 7 4 0 19 2 1.20
at Sapporo Dome 14 8 3 121.0 76 25 3 119 23 1.71
at Kyocera Dome 1 1 0 7.0 5 3 1 10 2 2.57
at Seibu Dome 2 1 1 16.2 11 2 3 18 5 2.70
Total Domed: 21 13 4 176.2 108 38 7 184 34 1.73
Of the domed stadiums, Seibu Dome seemed to be Darvish's worst location. Is that because it's partially exposed, especially to the influences of wind?

I didn't break games down by time, but I'd also read that Darvish was notoriously bad at day games as well. Does anyone have any data on that?
