Former Carp Ace Hiroaki Fukushi Passes Away
Former Hiroshima Carp ace pitcher Hiroaki Fukushi passed away on the evening of April 13 at the age of 54. He died at a Mahjong shop in Wakayama Prefecture, and right now the cause of death is suspected as some type of disease.

Fukushi was selected outside of the 1969 draft by the Tokyo Giants, and played for the Giants from 1970-72, then for the Nankai Hawks from 1973-76 before finishing his career with the Hiroshima Carp from 1977-1982. In Japan his career numbers were 91-84 in 339 games with 3 saves, a 3.68 ERA, and 785 strikeouts. With the Carp he won 15 games twice, and had the best winning percentage in the Central League in 1980 at .714.

In 1983, he went to play in Korea, where he posted 30 wins in his first year. He posted a 54-79 pitching record in Korea with a 3.55 ERA.
