Tatsunami: Doubles King

Tatsunami: Doubles King
Chunichi Dragon Kazuyoshi Tatsunami hit a pair of doubles on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 against the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters to leapfrog Kazuhiro Yamauchi's (Hiroshima) 448 career doubles and tie Yutaka Fukumoto (Hankyu) with 449 career doubles, the most in NPB history. While it took Fukumoto 20 years and 2,401 games to reach this mark, Tatsunami did it in his 18th year and 2,111 career game.

Interestingly, Tatsunami has never been the top double hitter for a single season. When he hit 39 in 1996, his highest mark, team mate Alonzo Powell hit 42. Nonetheless, Tatsunami's consistency has put him on top for career doubles in NPB history.

Another day, another double for Tatsunami. In their 4-9 loss to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters at Sapporo Dome on May 19, Tatsunami doubles in the third inning off of Kanemura to become the sole owner of the career doubles title, now with 450.

Congratulations, Tatsunami.
