Lions' Franchise Player?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Lions' Franchise Player?
I'm a budding Pro Yakyu fan over here in the USA (Hawaii, actually), and I occasionally torture myself by browsing the Japanese teams' websites to look at all the wonderful merchandise that I can't order.

A few days ago, I was over at the Seibu Lions' site, and I noticed that most of the player-related merchandise is of Matsuzaka Daisuke. I was sort of surprised, because I expected a lot more Matsui Kazuo stuff. Maybe I'm just coming from a MLB perspective, where everyday players get more "love" than pitchers.

I do understand that Matsuzaka-san was a highly-touted high school megaprospect. However, I would think that the merchandise split would be closer to 50/50, than what seems like 90/10.

Does Matsui's intent to jump to the major leagues have anything to do with the limited amount of merchandise bearing his name or number?

Just curious.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
