Jose Fernandez on AFN

Jose Fernandez on AFN
Seibu Lions' slugger Jose Fernandez is currently (3 pm-4 pm) a guest on the Armed Forces Network on their afternoon radio program. He's been talking about the Lions, his experience in Japan, the difference between the majors and Japan, etc. You can tell that he's not from the U.S., but his English is pretty good nevertheless. Kudos to him for doing for going on the program.

Nice. Did he say anything that particularly caught your interest?

No, not really. You can tell he's been well-coached in the "textbook answers" department. In his defense, though, the interviewer was the DJ of the afternoon radio program and she was just awful. Her questions were lousy and you could tell that she knew nothing about baseball and was not prepared to ask him anything interesting.

He did say, however, that he grew up in the Dominican Republic and looked up to guys like Julio Franco and Tony Pena. He said that his dad was a baseball coach and taught some of the guys from the D.R. who ended up in MLB.
