How about the all former old stadiums? Can they be used for games again?

I ask this topic is because I hope that a team like Yomiuri can play some games in their former stadium and build up their hot and feeling! And I believe that the old stadiums can give their home team some "Magic Power" for some time. Like the Inter-league games, if they play in their former stadiums, then they will be very different.

I'm afraid that Korakuen Stadium was torn down after Tokyo Dome was built right next door. After that, the site that Korakuen stood was made into an amusement park with the same name, Korakuen.

Some former stadiums are still standing (I think) are
  • Hankyu Braves' Nishinomiya Stadium (featured as this week's "Paper Stadium" in Shukan Baseball)
  • Nishitetsu Lions' Kita-Kyushu Stadium (or was that torn down last year?)
  • Chunichi Dragons' Nagoya Kyujyo (their ni-gun is based there the last I heard)
I think that Kawasaki Kyujyo (Lotte Orions and Taiyo Whales (before moving to Yokohama)) was either torn down or converted into a horse racing track.

It's an interesting idea you have, but not really necessary. The reason is that there are many third party stadiums throughout Japan that get a game or three each year, bringing professional baseball to rural areas and giving the players a change of scenery. These games are especially popular when a team has a player who is from that particular area, as that player will often be showcased to the home crowd, even when he's not a regular.

Thank you. So I know that the teams like the Fighters, Lions, and Orix, they play some games in the outdoors, right? Like Orix, they play some games in Kobe, because in Pacific League has 4 teams that play inside a dome.

I believe that Nishinomiya Stadium has been torn down already or, if not, is in the middle of that.

Osaka Stadium and Heiwadai Stadium (the former a one-time home of the Hawks, the latter the Lions' one-time stomping grounds) are long gone, and Fujiidera Stadium (Kintetsu's original ballpark) is about to be. Is Nissho Stadium still around? I think it may have been replaced, too.

Kawasaki Stadium (Yokohama and Lotte's ex-home park) is history, as is Nagoya Stadium, Chunichi's old place.

I think Kita Kyushu Stadium is still around. But it can't be very long for this world. I don't think it was ever any team's regular home park, though. Just one of the regional parks for occasional excursions to the areas not blessed with a team.

Kitakyushu Stadium is still standing - some of my relatives live only a stone's throw from it. It was never the Lions' home during the Nishitetsu era; they played their home ball at the Heiwadai Stadium in Fukuoka.

So Kita-Kyushu Stadium can still be used?

- So Kita-Kyushu Stadium can still be used?

Yes, but only for two or three games a season.

<TRIVIA>
The former Osaka Stadium is now the Namba Parks shopping complex, but they have marked out the pitcher's mound and home plate in commemoration of the site's history. Just as well they didn't decide to commemorate the time Katsuya Nomura burned excess water off the ground with kerosene!

- Kawasaki Stadium (Yokohama and Lotte's ex-home park) is history, as is Nagoya Stadium, Chunichi's old place.

Are you sure that Chunichi's old stadium is no more Gary? I'm sure that I still see it everytime I pass through Nagoya on the Shinkansen. It's on the left just before you get to Nagoya station (coming from Tokyo). The last time I passed through was last December.

I think it's still used for ni-gun games.
