George Arias & Scott McClain

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
George Arias & Scott McClain
Rumor has it that there are a lot of former NPB players trying to get back to Japan. Most notably, George Arias and Scott McClain. Should there be more interest in players like these since they have proven themselves to hit in the NPB or do we dismiss them because of old age?

It is actually very difficult for a non-Japanese player to get back to Japan once he finishes his contract here or suffers an injury. It is even harder if he has had an argument with the team management.

I may be wrong but I think that Seguinol was the only one in recent memory. The only way you can continue your career in Japan is to stay in the country and be available. So I would not bet on seeing either McClain or Arias anytime soon (nor Riggan come to that).

Julio Franco returned after leaving.

Also, Sherman Obando returned after leaving Nippon Ham.

The A's recently signed McClain to a minor league contract, as for Arias I'm not sure. Arias played last year in the Mexican League. Right now, I dimiss them because of old age.

George Wright with the Nankai Hawks in 1988 came back and played one for the Daiei Hawks in 1993.

Orestes Destrade of the Lions made a comeback in 1994 or 1995 after stint with the Marlins, also.

Almost everyone listed didn't fare as well their second time through (with maybe the exception of Franco).

Also, Fernando Sequignol returned to Nippon Ham to fare way better than he did the first time with Orix.

I think Kinkade should be given another chance to hit over here. Injury is the only reason he is not in Japan now. Too bad.
