American Managers

American Managers
I'd like to understand why would a NPB team hire an American manager (or foreigner for that matter)? Is it because of Bobby Valentine's popularity? I mean, aren't there plenty of good candidates in Japan? Just curious. (I stopped following MLB 2 years ago, and was very surprised by the fact that 1/4 of the NPB managers were Americans.)

Well, look at the teams that hired them: the Marines, the Ham Fighters, and the Carp. It strikes me that the one common aspect of their hiring suketto managers is that they were desperate (or at least frustrated) at the time.
