Should Nomura Have Saved Teppei?

Should Nomura Have Saved Teppei?
Teppei, of the Rakuten Eagles, recently set a new NPB record for consecutive strike outs. I was watching highlights of this and saw Nomura's smirk. I kept thinking the entire time about how I would've let him go for a safety bunt or something. To anybody who saw those at bats, did Nomura try this at all?

Teppei is a young guy who's just getting a taste of being an ichi-gun member, let alone a starter. If I were manager, I'd worry about how something like that could ruin a young player's mentality. What do you guys think?

He's more of an old schooler who would use humiliation as a motivation tactic, right? Nomura's probably hoping that this would be a big learning experience for Teppei.

Nothing wrong with Nomura's tactics. Teppei needs to learn that sport isn't always easy. If he's got the strength of character he will come through. If anything it's a show of faith in a young player who is given a chance to prove himself.

I think I'd have to side with Christopher here. Ruin a young guy's mentality? I think leaving him in there could have the opposite effect - as long as the coaches are working with him between games to try and overcome the problem.

I wouldn't have smirked, though.

That's Nomu-san's default expression, isn't it? I wouldn't read too much into it.

- That's Nomu-san's default expression...

Which is why I wouldn't have done it.

Maybe it's a misinterpreted grimace similar to when babies smile when they have wind.
