Based on his AAA numbers, I thought Short would hit over .300 with a ton of doubles and 12-15 HRs for Rakuten.

As expected, Short is at .311, but no HRs and just 20 RBI in 283 ABs, which is highly unusual for an American player. Is he dealing a sore wrist, injured fingers, or other problems that cut into power?

One of the reasons is Rakuten plays in the most spacious ballpark in the league, I think.

He could hit the ball out of RFK Stadium, though.

Are we being negative about a gaijin hitting over .300 for the ... Rakuten Eagles?

He's never been a HR hitter and does not come advertised as one. And for the RBI's, well just look at the plethora of guys who are routinely choking the bases with stellar ABs on that squad.

He did hit 12 homers his first year in NPB, so his 0 does seem quite unusual. Maybe a change in approach?

Yeah, it does seem a little odd. The only explanation I can offer is that the differences in the two stadiums, and from what I understand Rakuten's Miyagi Stadium is the most spacious stadium in Japan.

I think that could explain for the change in power numbers.
