Tokyo Meetup?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Tokyo Meetup?
You know, I probably should have mentioned this here earlier, but I've been in Japan the last week or so, seeing games and writing about them on my baseball blog (Seattle Marinerds). So far I've been to home games of Rakuten, Seibu, Chunichi, Hiroshima, Orix, and Hanshin. This coming week I plan to hit Lotte, Yakult, and Yokohama, and maybe Seibu again. (I've already been to the Tokyo Dome enough times in my life and can't make it to Fukuoka or Sapporo this trip, sadly.)

Anyway, I've been traveling with friends for most of the trip so far, but I'm not leaving Japan until the 18th and they're parting ways with me on the 14th, so I won't have anyone to drag to games next weekend (the September 15th-17th). So if anyone who lives around Tokyo is up for going with me to any of the Swallows-Carp, BayStars-Giants, or Lions-Buffaloes games next weekend, especially if you already know your way around either Jingu or Yokohama Stadium, let me know? I can be reached best by email, dr4b at hotmail d0t com.

(I hope it's okay to post something like this here, I can't remember if I've seen things like it before, though Vir4030 posted his Tigers Tour stuff a month or two ago. I've never really gotten a sense of whether most of the regulars here living in Japan are close by enough to actually ever meet up for a game or anything, and our attempt to get a Seattle meetup this year sort of failed. )

Sorry, wedding anniversary this weekend. Also, many of us with families need a little more warning than a week.

I do think this is a great idea, and have met with a number of fans over the years for a game. It's good to put a face to a name/handle.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I really probably should have said something much earlier, but I also had no idea exactly which games I'd be going to and/or have people along with me until pretty much the day before I left for Japan. Oops.

It worked out okay, anyway - going to games alone actually encourages me to chat with the people around me in Japanese, rather than just talking in English with the friends I attend with.

I'm hoping to come back to Japan again next year (I say that after every trip, of course) and I'll try to post earlier about it, although I'm really, really hoping to go to Sapporo, which probably rules out everyone here anyway. I guess I'd have to connect through Tokyo to fly north anyway, though, so maybe I'd spend a few days down there as well.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
