Reading up on NPB
Jim (or anyone else who might know): Do you know of an English-language book that tells the history of the NPB and also gives biographical info of the players? I can't find anything so far. I did a quick search on baseballguru.com, but didn't see anything there either. Can anyone help me out?

Have you read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)? There's a Q&A on books there. The books by Whiting are historical, and the one by Fitts and Engle is biographical.

The Japanese Insider on baseballguru.com is an excellent resource as well, and it's free. Here's a link.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
