TV-Bank Petition

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
TV-Bank Petition
It looks like four teams have gathered on Yahoo! BB Broadcasts (aka TV-Bank):While I'm glad to see Rakuten actually cooperating with Softbank (who owns Yahoo! Japan), I'm extremely upset with the way Yahoo! is running this. Not only are those of you outside of Japan complaining about not being able to view the games, but I'm in Japan and cannot. They require a Microsoft OS (Windows 2000 or later), Microsoft browser (IE 6 or later - no FireFox or Opera), and Microsoft video player (third party players that will play MS formats like VLC are out). You couldn't pay me to use any of the above, no matter how much I'd want to see the content. (At least there are ways of getting around some of those requirements with the U.S. State Department pages - browser spoofing and disabling/enabling JavaScript at certain times - not something your average user can do, though.)

Anyway, perhaps a petition of some kind will help make the powers-that-be aware that these draconian efforts to restrict NPB viewing are not in the best interests of NPB. The address to write to is:
support@tv-bank.com
Please keep it polite. (My rant above would not be appropriate.) And they'll probably ignore anything in English, but if that's all you know, it couldn't hurt. If you don't get a reply after 24 hours, write again, and again, and again until they come up with a statement as to why they are excluding a segment of their fan base.

Please post any replies you get.

I wrote to the address and it bounced back to me with a note saying they don't accept mail from foreign IP addresses.

Now I feel the brick wall that Westbay-san is always banging his head against.

All I can say is keep agitating until change happens.

Unbelievable. I hate to say it, but this is the future of the Internet. Regulations and restrictions everywhere in order to take control of information. Sadly, this reminds me a lot of how China handles the Internet. I'm very disappointed, not as just a Japanese baseball fan, but also as someone who enjoys his freedom on the Internet.

The only option for us guys outside Japan is this link.

Click on the 100k link around the bottom of the page and you can get a lower quality stream of Hawks home games. There's really no reason for them to have this stream anymore, so either Softbank forgot all about it or someone out there is looking out for us. Credit goes to Shinigami for not giving up on trying to find a stream.

As of typing this, Tuffy Rhodes just hit a homer. Welcome back, Tuffy!

Unfortunately, that's the only place where we can find live ball. All other teams available link back to Yahoo's, with Seibu and Orix even without any sort of net-chuukei.

The last part of what you said annoys me the most. Seibu does not have any Internet broadcasts. This, after being the first team to broadcast their games live on Yahoo! about 4 years ago (I think). It's hard for me to believe that broadcasting the games are so costly that it isn't beneficial to keep them going. One thing I have noticed (which may have changed) is that the Internet feeds never have any sort of advertisements in them. I'm sure the viewers wouldn't mind watching the ads if it meant being able to watch the game!

Rakuten's feed had commercials. The same commercials over and over. Which got annoying. But, since life is a delicate balance, they also had the best pre- and post- game shows (full 30 minute productions). They also had lots of interviews, quiz games, and other fun stuff around the stadium.

If I need to be bombarded by commercials while enjoying all that, so be it. Okay, I'll even give in and buy something at LAWSON.

About this, I watched the Hawks/Fighters game last night using this, and am I the only one that gets no sound? I've had issues with sound and streams before, so I'm not sure if it was related or if they simply don't put sound on it. I mean, with my limited Japanese knowledge it's not like I can understand the announcers anyway, but it's still fun to listen to the crowd noises and stuff.

Anyway, I'm glad the Hawks are still offering this. I'm a Fighters fan, but I may become a part-time Hawks fan in appreciation of this!

Also, I may be wrong, but I think you have to have the Japanese version of Microsoft Explorer (which I can't install for some reason).

I have tried to use a Japanese IP address, but it's not working either.
