Carp Woes

Carp Woes
Any thoughts on the Carp's problems? They were doing quite reasonably against vastly superior opposition (the mighty Tigers) until this one game losing streak to mediocre opposition. Sasaoka was unable to reproduce his form of late, and batters have been unwilling to hit the way they have in recent days.

What can be done?

I'll happily swap the Tigers' position for the Carp position. Have you considered the possibility that the bonus money ran out?

So listen Christopher - you promise you will be happy once the Tigers reach 4th place? Thanks.

Why is that? The Tigers are 7-3 in their last 10; the Carp 6-4. In those last 10 the Tigers have out-scored, out-hit, and out-powered their opponents; the Carp have deficits in both hits and long balls, and they're barely ahead in the scoring category. About the only advantage the Carp have is that they're 1.5 games ahead of Hanshin in the standings, but with the inter-league lottery coming up, that could change very quickly.

Head to head Hanshin has a problem, but the two teams don't play each other again until August.

Fourth is better than fifth, and even 1.5 games are difficult to overturn.

All right. Let's just wait and see, shall we? I've looked at the numbers; the trend is clear. My bold prediction is that by the end of inter-league play, Hanshin will have made up that 1.5 game difference, and the positions will be reversed: Hanshin in third or higher, Hiroshima in fourth or lower.

Panic. And bring back Kinugasa.

No - just give us back Kanemoto please!

I'd say hurry and get Douglass and Hernandez off the DL.

The obvious key for the Carp will be for them to teach their Yuki Saitoh how to pitch. Everyone knows a Yuki Saitoh makes every team better!

Sadly, at a glance his farm numbers this year don't look so great; lots of walks, not so many strikeouts. I was hoping the "Red Handkerchief Kid" would do well this year.

I guess it's Fernandez not Hernandez. Any ideas when he and Douglass will be back playing? I read that Fernandez has a pulled hammie or something, but haven't heard anything about Douglass. Did he have Tommy John surgery or something? I thought he did a really good job for the Carp last year.

The real Saitoh Yuuki did make his team better. He became the first player since some years ago to win 3 straight games in his first year. And could go for a 4th straight win in the upcoming game against Keidai, in which a win would help Waseda university win the Big Six Spring Season League.
