Inter-League MVP?

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Inter-League MVP?
There is only a week left in inter-league and was wondering who everyone thought is in the running for MVP. Marines' closer Kobayashi won it last year with an amazing inter-league performance. But with what happened in the ninth to Hansin the other day, I do not see him repeating.

So, who shall it be?

With Fighters probably finishing first, I've have to say Ryan Glynn's numbers so far look the most impressive. A 4-0 record with an ERA below 1.

Other strong candidates are Sugiuchi and Kawakami for the pitchers, and Saburo, Benny, Fukuura, and Tuffy Rhodes for the hitters.

Does the MVP have to come from the team that wins inter-league play? If so then Glynn will probably be the choice. But with the offensive output of the Marines in inter-league there has to be someone there to take the award, maybe Saburo or Fukuura. Plus I do not see NPB handing over the MVP to a gaijin that easily.

Yes, the MVP has to come from the inter-league winner. Last year, the best choice would have been Lee Seung Yeop. So it looks like Ryno is in good position to claim and extra 2 million yen.

Since the Fighters won inter-league, and the MVP has to go to the winning club, which I personally do not agree with, the MVP will have to be between Inaba, Glynn, Seguinol, Masado Takada, and Darvish. Inaba is the team leader and has been consistent throughout year and inter-league, so he would be my pick.

The announcer, during Glynn's hero interview after the Fighters clinched Inter-League play, suggested that Glynn was the front runner for the MVP. Glynn played it down and said that it was a group effort that won the Inter-League and that he's happy to be with the Fighters this season.

At the end of his hero interview, he also had a personal message. He said "hi" to his wife who had called him earlier to inform him that she's pregnant with their third child. Glynn said that that news made him more happy than getting the win that day (Sunday), winning the Inter-League, or a potential MVP award.

Wow, what a class guy. For every gaijin that comes to Japan and whines about everything like Kevin Mitchell or Jason Johnson, there's a guy like Glynn who just toughs it out and really understands how stuff works in Japan. He understands that to succeed, you have to "drink the Kool-Aid," as the saying goes, and be a true team player.

I would have to go with Benny. He carried the hot bat during this time, getting his avg over .300.
