Thoughts on Daisuke Katoh?

Thoughts on Daisuke Katoh?
Here's a question. If Daisuke Katoh [YouTube] of the Orix Buffaloes were on a team like Hanshin or Yomiuri, would he be considered a superstar reliever by now? It seems like he's about the most underrated reliever in all of Japan. He has one of the better fastballs in Japan, plus he throws a really devastating knuckle curve [YouTube]. One has to wonder why he's only just recently been used as the closer for Orix. What do you guys think about his stuff?

With closers like Kyuji Fujikawa, Hitoki Iwase, Marc Kroon, and Koji Uehara it's unlikely. When you think of the range of pitches these guys have he has some way to go.

You mention range of pitches, but the guys you mentioned only really use one breaking ball. Iwase has the slider, Kroon has the splitter, and Uehara uses the fork. Fujikawa only uses the fastball these days. Those guys have other pitches, but how often do they throw them? Probably less than 5% of the time.
