Naoyuki Ohmura Thinking About America

There's an interesting article out in which Naoyuki Ohmura of the Softbank Hawks says he's thinking of going to the Majors when he qualifies for free agency again at the end of the 2008 season. In his prime, Ohmura showed 10-15 home run power, Golden Glove defense, and the ability to steal 20-30 bases. He's now pretty much lost all his power and ability to steal bases, hitting a single homer and stealing 11 bases (caught 7 times) this past season. Getting only 9 walks in 450 at bats is also pretty bad for a top of the order batter.

Ohmura is 331 hits away from 2,000 hits, a feat that he would easily accomplish if he stays in Japan. When asked about sacrificing this to go to the Majors, he says that the hits also count in MLB, so it doesn't matter. That's assuming he'll be anything more than a late game defensive substitution.
