Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles

Discussion in the Open Talk forum
Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles
What do you think about Rakutens moves so far? I get the regional name, but I still don't like it very much. If they are going to take a (semi)recycled name, I wish they would have taken the "Whales" moniker or a name like the Sendai Rakuten Bears. (I dunno, maybe it was all those times watching the Bad News Bears go to Japan as a kid that makes me scream out for a Japanese team called the Bears.)

How many years do you think it will take for them to be competitive? Do you think Kuehnert will succeed as a gaikokujin GM? Will Michael Jordan be batting cleanup?

I just wish these new/relocated teams would devise shorter names! Hokaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles - what a mouthful. If they want their fans to stay loyal and sing the fight song, they've gotta use something shorter.

Hanshin Tigers - now that's a good name. Four syllables. Easy to chant, easy to sing.
