Today's (July 26, 2008) paper version of Nikkan Sports has the answer: Viral enteritis. I'm not good with medical terms, but based on the kanji (腸炎), I'm guessing that a virus is causing his intestines to become inflamed.
Otherwise, Yamamoto appears to be throwing regularly in the rotation, with expected slides during the frequent rains we had earlier in the season. He was put into the starting rotation at the beginning of April, throwing regularly since, with a complete game shutout on April 23rd:

Wow, that is a lot of quality starts for Yamamoto.
Anyway, looks like a false alarm with regard to Orix's incompetence this time. He's simply ill.
This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.
It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
