Arias:

This thread covers Arias' return to MLB. The latest information there is that Arias signed with the Nationals but has been sent to the minors to start the season.

Petagine:

This thread covers Petagine's post-NPB travels. Essentailly, the Red Sox picked him up to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. That's the last word I've seen.

Petagine has an injury in spring training while trying to make the Red Sox, and Arias failed to make the Nationals' roster.

Roberto Petagine currently is tearing up the International League AAA with an .335 Avg., 13 HR, 12 2B, 3 3B, 31 BB, and 38 RBI in 42 games (28 extra bases). 448 OBP and 683 SLG = 1131 OPS. By far the best performances of any player there.

Petagine underwent knee surgery and the Red Sox sent him down for rehabilitation. He is in good shape and is waiting for promotion, but the Red Sox are packed at first base with Millar and Olerud.

Yesterday (June 30th), was the last day for Petagine's clause. If he wasn't in the majors he could enact a clause that would allow him to be released to look for employment in the NPB. [Full Article - Boston.com]
