Colonial-Era Japanese Baseball Teams

Colonial-Era Japanese Baseball Teams
Hello - I have a collection of 1930's-1940's Malaysian photographs from the town of DUNGUN, Malaysia. One photograph depicts a baseball team, seated on the field with baseball bats spread out in front. About three or four of the players are wearing identical hats with the letter "D". As Dungun, Malaysia was a colony of the UK until 1942 - and a Japanese colony from 1942-1945 - my guess is this photo must be from the Japanese occupation. Does anybody have any info on this team or Colonial Japanese baseball in general?

Thanks - Matt in Taipei.
