500 Home Run Club
Westbay-san,

Would you happen to have a list of the Pro Yakyu 500 home run club? I would check on the NPB-BIS webpage, but it doesn't look like they've gotten around to putting up the new player pages yet.

Thanks!

No problem. Checking my 2002 Baseball Record Book, Baseball Magazine Sha, ISBN4-583-03677-9 C2075:

868 (10.8) Sadaharu Oh (Giants)
657 (16.1) Katsuya Nomura (Seibu)
567 (15.8) Hiromitsu Kadota (Daiei)
536 (15.2) Kohji Yamamoto (Hiroshima)
510 (15.1) Hiromitsu Ochiai (Nippon Ham)
504 (19.4) Isao Harimoto (Lotte)
504 (18.8) Sachio Kunigasa (Hiroshima)

===========

Current players (not counting 2002):
442 (15.2) Kazuhiro Kiyohara (Giants)
432 (18.1) Koji Akiyama (Daiei)

[Oh's total number corrected from 878 by Admin on Mar 16, 2004 6:31 PM, JST. Thanks Block-san for catching that.]

I just thought it interesting seeing the teams attached to those records, like Nomura, a long time Hawk, Kadota mostly with Nankai, Ochiai with Lotte and Chunichi mostly, Harimoto, a Giant and Fighter. It somewhat reminds me of Hank Aaron ending his career with the Brewers.

Kiyohara can be the next member 500 HR Club? And who will be next?

That's right. Kiyohara has 20 home runs left to go. He hit 26 last season. So if he can hold onto his regular spot against Petagine, he has a shot at becoming the 8th player in NPB history to do so.

According to Shukan Baseball, nobody else is within range this season.

Fellow Giant Etoh is 5 home runs away from the 350 mark (to become the 18th player). He hit 17 home runs last season.

Rhodes and former team mate Nakamura both need 12 home runs to reach the 300 plateau.

It is hard to hit 500 home runs there. Just Kiyohara can be a new member this year.
