Free Agent!
Do not know if this topic was discussed before or not, but how much does a team have to pay as compensation to the FA's former team if it were to sign that FA? I heard it was over 100% of what the FA would receive for one year of the new contract. Also, what about the MLB?

Free Agent Fees
[ Author: westbaystars | Posted: Nov 7, 2002 10:40 PM | YBS Fan ]

I believe that the cost to another Japanese team is 1.5 times the player's previous year contract and/or an agreed upon player. That pretty much guarantees that the Giants will get all of the biggest names.

For players going to the Majors as free agents, I've heared that there is a monetary fee, but not nearly as much. Some have challenged that statement. Nobody seems to have seen anything in the press to substantiate or refute it, so we're currently deadlocked on the issue right now.
