Player Recruiting?

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Player Recruiting?
Hi,

Thanks for the info on the baseball season. I was wondering if you can assist me with some other info.

I am conducting a pro baseball tryout in Japan sometime this year. There will be professional scouts (MLB, and independent league) at the tryout. My question is, what advice do you have in order to reach out to people that are interested in playing baseball in the States? We are looking for 25 to 30 players to bring back to the States for a showcase. Please feel free to e-mail me with this info at kesh1194 at hotmail d0t com.

Thank you.

I've seen ads in Shukan Baseball (a weekly baseball magazine) for baseball camps, tours, etc. in the U.S. Advertising with them would be the only advice I can think of.

Baseball Magazine Sports Communications, Inc. appears to be the agency through which you'll need to go through if you wish to pursue this option. The page is only in Japanese, but you should be able to read the fax number and request information through there. I'd strongly recommend hiring a local Japanese college student part time to communicate with them in Japanese (if you don't have a Japanese speaking person on your staff).

It sounds like you're trying to put together a team like the Samurai Bears of the Golden Baseball League last season. Is that what this is for?

No, this is not like the Samurai Bear team. This is basically for Japanese baseball players that want to get signed in the States. It will be a placement/ evaluation and all the evaluation will be sent to the leagues. We would like to bring back 25-30 players to be looked at by 30 scouts or so live. We will train these players for about a week and then the tryout will be held in Arizona.

- I would like to get your e-mail address so that I can contact you.

You don't read the other threads, do you? It was recently posted to one.

Anyway, it's my handle at-mark this site.

If you're looking for a partner to help you with this, I'm not interested. I don't have the time to do what would be required, and I don't have the contacts necessary. (I've been asked often to partner on numerous business ventures, similar and not so similar, in the past. They all start out with "How do I ..." and end with "Will you act as a contact/go-between?") I prefer to assist people on the forum (as opposed to e-mail) so that everyone may benefit, and others who know better than I may voice an opinion. That way I'm not answering the same questions over and over. If what you have to ask could be beneficial to others in the future, I'd prefer to keep the conversation open (on the forum).
