The Industrial Leagues are very competitive leagues made up of company employees (in theory). Many of the large corporations in Japan, automobile industry, petrolium industry, electronics industry, telecommunication industry, etc., form baseball leagues around the major metropolis areas and compete in a number of tournaments throughout the year.

The Industrial Leagues have long been considered an independent minor league for NPB. It's a place high school kids can go to further their baseball training if they were drafted by a team they didn't want to play for (a 3 year wait to their next eligible draft instead of a 4 year wait the college route). Most players for these Industrial League teams officially do routine office work to earn their pay, and play baseball as an activity. My understanding is that, with many of these teams, they're baseball players first and foremost.

Some ball players, after they've finished with their professional career, will return to their former Industrial League companies and work in sales.

Can I try out for an Industrial League team or what?

That's a very difficult question. I have no idea how the Industrial League teams handle player aquisition, other than through recruiting locally. I have heard of some foreigners on a couple of teams, but I have no idea how they got there. Hired factory labor that managed to work their way onto the team?

Are there any English websites covering the industrial leagues?

To my best knowledge there's no website that covers the Industrial Leagues in English. Information in English usually is hard to come by except for the little information that is reported every once in a while.
