Japan Series Official Attendance

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Japan Series Official Attendance
I know this topic was covered in a forum earlier, but I couldn't find it, so I guess I'll ask again.

I saw the attendance for game 1 of the Japan Series as 36,643, while the Fukuoka Dome holds 48,000. Does that mean 12,000 people didn't give their ticket stubs to the takers? Or had it comp'ed?

During the year, the attendance is always estimated, but during big games (i.e. All Star, and Japan Series) the figure is precise, but always significantly under the stadium's capacity. I can't quite remember the responses from the last discussion. So, what up?

Well I think this can be answered rather simply. Paid attendance, and physical attendance are different things. In a games such as the All-Star Game(s) or World Series, many tickets are given away for one reason or another, so the paid attendance doesn't always reflect the actual attendance.
