Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters
I was curious. With their move to Sapporo and their name change, will the Fighters' "official" abbreviation continue to be the kanji symbol "nichi"? I'm guessing it will since the Buffaloes are still represented with "kin" even after they added "Osaka" to their name.

Thanks,
Dave

That's not a question I can answer until the season starts and I see it in the daily papers.

But they did change their uniforms. Both home and away lost the pin-stripes. Home now says "FIGHTERS" across the chest, with dark green lettering and yellow trim/black shadow. They used to be the "Fs" logo mark (which has also changed to just an "F" with what looks like a yellow triangle in the middle). The away uniforms have "NIPPONHAM" (no space) across the chest in white lettering with yellow trim and black shadow.

Both home and away have the left sholder in black with a dark gold line bordering on the shirt and back side, and a gold and blue stripe at the end.

I've searched for an image on the Internet, but they don't have one on their official page, yet, and the on-line Nikkan article also didn't offer a photo.

On this thread, Steinbrennernot posted this link to the New York Times [registration required] which has a photo of Ogasawara modelling the new away uniform. You can get an idea of the asymetrical sleaves.

Here are photos of Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters uniforms [Link - Sapporo-Dome.co.jp].

Gambare Nippon Ham!

[For those who can't read Japanese, the photo on the left shows the practice uniforms (black), home uniforms (white), and away uniforms (gray).]

Hmmmm. It appears to somewhat resemble the Marlins' color scheme, especially with the F on the hat. Oh well, it wouldn't be the first time there was a resemblance (Dodgers-Dragons, Giants-Giants, and so forth).
