Info on Lunquist
I really enjoy this site. I think it's very informative and entertaining.

Yesterday, while I was pursuing the site, I saw that the Hiroshima Toyo Carp acquired an old friend of mine, Dave Lundquist. Dave played with the White Sox and in the Royals' and Padres' organizations. I saw that the Carps acquired him, but I didn't see any stats on him.

I read the FAQ on how to contact a player, and since I've been in Japan, I've lost touch with him. I was hoping that Mr. Westbay, Mr. Albright, Mr. Garland, Mr. Allen, or anyone could help me gain some insight as to whether he is playing next season, or if he played last season? I know that this is really tough, but I was just wondering if any of the Gurus knew anything or could help me before I sent a letter the Carp organization.

I've got some tentative stats entered for 2003, but haven't enabled players who got their first starts in 2003, yet. For you, I've enabled Lunquists' stats on his profile page.

I don't generally know until March who the foreign players are for a given year as such information tends to be a little harder to gather. But with just six appearances last season, I have a feeling that he might not be asked back. Wish I had better news for you.
Returning to North America

Nikkan Sports is currently running a series entitled "Sayonara Pro Yakyu." Today (Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003) they cover the Hiroshima Carp, and Lunquist is listed there as being released along with foreigners Newman and Hurst.

In the field for his future plans, Lunquist states that he plans on returning to North America to continue playing. Note, that's just what he plans to do. He may wind up going anywhere including Korea and/or Taiwan. Players listed in this segment have also found homes on other Japanese teams in the past, so that isn't completely eliminated either.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
