Playing Baseball in Japan

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Playing Baseball in Japan
I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what the best way for someone to solicite themselves to a team in Japan would be? Since I've been back playing in the States I've had several people ask me this. I really don't know a good answer to this questoin because I was fortunate enough to have been scouted by a Hanshin Tigers' scout to play in Japan. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

I see this has fallen off the front page here again.

The first place to look for this is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). Also, this thread has responses from some agents who are willing to help. More recently, former Yakult Swallow and Hiroshima Carp, Alan Newman, asked a similar question here and was kind enough to tell us about how he came to Japan.

I was under the impression that you weren't interested in coming back to Japan. Is that still so? Or have you had any second thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions, I never said I didn't want to play baseball in Japan again. I wouldn't rule that out at all. I just really had the itch to come back home and give it a shot here again. The Royals gave me that chance and I took it.

Darrell May was recently released by the Minnesota Twins. It's probably too late for him to catch on with another MLB team since most of them have already set their rosters for the upcoming season, so it might behoove May to look into playing in Japan again. A NPB team would be smart to pick him up.
