The first Venezuelan player in Japan was the late Robert (Bobby) Marcano. He was a third baseman with a strong arm, quick hands, and power over average who compiled very good numbers in NPB. In Venezuela he played for La Guaira Tiburones (Sharks). Unfortunately, Robert died in his forties, a victim of cancer.
