Dear Westbaystar-san:

This is Yuki Sei. Thank you for your great website.

I have been collecting Ame-Nichi cards for 4 years, now. Vaguely I remember that Kintetsu once had a player who's name was pronounced like "Ballah." Is he Jeff Ballard of Stanford? Or is he Jay Baller, a former Cub? I have both pitchers' cards, but haven't been able to clarify my memory.

Anybody, help needed!

Ballard played the majority of his career with the Orioles, and never played with the Cubs.

I'm sorry if I have confused you.

My question is: Which player came to play for Kintetsu?
  1. Jeff Ballard? (a former Stanford/Oriole) or
  2. Jay Baller? (a former Cub/Phillie)
I have kept their cards in my lot, but with your help, I would like to make sure that I had the right player's cards. My intuition tells me: Jeff Ballard, but I am not sure.

Kintestu also hired Traber and Milacki, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ballard in a Buffalo uniform.

Thanks again,
Yuki Sei (sigbotchan)

I asked Google about Baller and was told that Jay Baller played for Orix in 1994 [in Japanese].

Google didn't know anything about Jeff Ballard being with Kintetsu or any other Japanese team.
Jay Baller-deshitaka...

Thank you, Westbaystars-san. I think you have solved my problem.

Baller's cards are not as common as Ballard's, so I'll have a difficult time finding them. Currently, I have the 1986 Donruss #613 and 1993 Donruss #356 in my hands. I may have more left in Japan.

Baller seems to be a "nakatsugi" during most of his career.

Thank you for your help,
Yuki Sei
