Pitchers and Batting?
Do the pitchers in Japan also bat like they do in the National League in North America?

The pitchers bat in the Central League while the Pacific League uses the DH.

Pitchers only bat in the Central League. The Pacific League uses the DH rule.

Yes, in the Central League the pitcher bats. In the Pacific League however, they use the designated hitter rule and the pitcher does not bat.

And the same goes for the post-season in Japan as MLB. They use the DH in the Pacific League parks and pitchers bat in Central League home games.

Surprisingly, Matsuzaka was in the Pacific League; you wouldn't know that from his big hit in game 3!
