Pensions?

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Pensions?
Do the foreign players in Japan recieve a pension after their playing days are over? Are foreign players eligible to receive a Japanese pension? If so, what are the rules for them to qualify?

Thank you.

I believe you have to pay premiums for 25 years to receive the national pension in Japan. Foreign nationals, having paid those premiums for the term of their stay in Japan (assuming it is less than 25 years) are eligible to receive a refund of a portion of the premiums paid.

Coincidentally, the whole pension system is up in the air right now in Japan, as people push for change in the way it is structured and operated.
