One League Idea Dead?

One League Idea Dead?
With the interest in starting baseball teams shown by Rakuten and Livedoor, and Colony Capital's veto on the sale of the Daiei Hawks, are there likely to be any more mergers in the Pacific League?

That there will be no more mergers is pretty much the only owners' promise that I can believe right now. They're working hard to come up with excuses to not allow any other team to join.

Meanwhile, here's an interesting piece from today's Nikkan Sports:

The Pacific League reaches a new record in attendance 36 games earlier than last year, which was a new record.

The top five attendance records for the Pacific League are:

Year G Total Att. Avg.
1 2004 384 10,201,000 26,600
2 2003 420 10,144,000 24,200
3 2001 420 10,124,000 24,100
4 1997 405 10,012,500 24,700
5 2002 420 9,709,000 23,100

So, with attendance raising every year, how is it that the owners are squandering any profits due to that rise? It makes one wonder about their competence.

The numbers for attendance is unrealiable. No team has announced the real capacity of stadiums officially until now.

I think this data is meaningless.
