O'Malley-Kantoku?
What's this I hear about Tom O'Malley managing the Tigers in 2005? It was the talk of the office this morning. Anything in it?

Haven't heard of that one, but SanSpo reported today that Shimano, head coach under Hoshino-kantoku, is refusing strong offers to come back to a similar position. Perhaps the O'Malley talk has something to do with that.

Someone at work mentioned that he heard that former Tiger Randy Bass was being considered manager for "one of those new teams." I figured that he must have been confusing the announcement of Kuehnert as GM of Rakuten with that. Then this was posted, and I figured that maybe a couple of rumors were getting merged and twisted.

Looking up baseball news on Yahoo! Japan, I see this [SpoNichi] and this [Sports Houchi] [both in Japanese] announcing Livedoor is planning on O'Malley managing them if selected. So you got the right former Tiger suketto, the friend at work the right team.

Thanks for clearing that up!

SanSpo reported today that O'Malley would retain his position as Hanshin's US-based scout now that Rakuten has been made the 6th Pa-League club.
