On the 21st, Orix held an inserquad game (at Kobe sub-ground) where the two right handers, Jose Capellan (27=previously with Rockies) and Pedro Riliano (sp?) (27=previously with Angels), held their tryouts. No decision has yet been made regarding Capellan's performce of reaching a maximum of 143 kph over 3 innings of 1 hit, no run pitching. Under the supervision of Collins-kantoku, inspecting Nakamura-club head said, "I get the magical feeling of power. We should decide in 2 or 3 days." However, it was decided not to adopt Riliano (sp?) who maxed out at 146 kph over 3 innings while allowing 8 runs on 8 hits. Please use this Goo search for finding more articles on Capellan in Japanese over the next few days. If you find something, please feel free to bring it to our attention. I have a feeling that the Kanto version of Nikkan Sports won't carry anything until the final decision has been made (and only then if there is a signing).
On [May] 28 Orix announced that it would pass on signing the two pitchers from the Dominican Republic, Jose Capellan and Pedro Liliano (sp?), who were undergoing a tryout for the team. Club head Nakamura explained that they had insufficient ability, but that they still somehow wanted to acquire one more pitcher. He said that they have a number of names on a list.Sorry it didn't work out.
This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.
It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
